Hand-over of ARU Communications Office

By Sr. Immaculate Tusingwire, MMS

After 5 years of serving as a communications Coordinator at the Association of Religious in Uganda (ARU), Sr. Mary Lilly Driciru, MSMMC, officially handed over the office on 30th July 2024.

Sr. Lilly who has also doubled as ARU coordinator for Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation, is leaving behind a legacy of a great passion about the option for the poor which she has especially expressed in fighting against Human trafficking. She has worked with several survivors of Trafficking in Persons (TIP) and helped in bringing healing and hope to many.

As Masters of Arts (MA) degree holder from Gregorian University Rome, in social communication, and in interdisciplinary studies, Sr. Lilly has pioneered the office of communications at ARU and grew it alongside the growth of the Association.

In her work of advocating for social and environmental justice, she has connected the Association with other international networks especially Talitha Kum and she remains the coordinator for Talitha Kum Africa and Africa Faith and Justice Network Uganda. These are platforms that help advocate against trafficking in persons and other social evils in the society.

As handover symbols to the in-coming communications coordinator, Sr. Lilly handed a key, file and a pen to the in-coming coordinator Sr. Immaculate Tusingwire, MMS as symbols of continuity.

Present during the Hand-over were two representatives from the Medical Mission Sisters (MMS) and Missionary Sisters of Mary Mother of the Church (MSMMC), ARU Secretary General and other Members of ARU administrative staff. They all commended the great work Sr. Lilly has done and urged the in-coming coordinator to find her rhythm since she is not Sr. Lilly.
