A quadruple celebration at Uganda Spiritual Formation Center Namugongo

By Sr. Immaculate Tusingwire – MMS….…………………

There was joy at the Uganda Spiritual Formation Center, Namugongo (USFC) as they officially began the 2025 formation and Sabbatical programs at the beginning of February 2025.

While marking the beginning of the two programs, the Centre also welcomed the New Chaplain, Fr. Robert Jungeyu Denis, MIDM and bid farewell to the out-going Chaplain, Fr. Dominic Tamale Anyanzo, MIDM. It was also marked with the celebration of the Golden Jubilee of Sr. Mary Pauline Namuddu, LSOSF, Coordinator of the Formation Ministry in Uganda.

The day started with a ceremony of welcoming the new members who entered the main gate while lighting Candles that were carried in a procession to the Eucharistic celebration.

It was also a pleasure to have the Rector of Namugongo Martyrs Shrine, Fr. Vincent Lubega for the very 1st time at the Centre who also presided over the Eucharistic Celebration of the Holy Mass.

In his Homily, Fr. Vincent prayed for the participants of the formation and Sabbatical programs, that by the time they leave the program, they may have new anger which comes with the realization that one never forgave, new shame of realizing that one had not been considerate of others and new jealousy.

This year’s theme of the USFC is derived from the theme of the Jubilee Year 2025: “LORD, TEACH US TO PRAY AS PILGRIMS OF HOPE”

The total number of participants this year for both programs is 30; Fifteen for the Sabbatical program and 15 for Formation Program. It is a mixed group of sisters, brothers and priests coming from 20 institutes and different countries; Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Kenya and Cameroon.

The Secretary General, Association of Religious in Uganda (ARU), Sr. Lydia Apili Bwor – LSMIG also attended the official opening and welcomed the members to the program especially those coming from outside Uganda. She cautioned the participants to treasure this opportunity given to them since sometimes it comes only once. She promised to pray for their renewal of Spirit, body and soul.

Both programs of Sabbatical and Formation take 9 months and the participants will be commissioned in October 2025.
